internets_black_150.gifPhil and I stayed up until 2:00am playing Madden. Let me phrase that, I stayed up until 2:00am WINNING Madden. I don’t know what Phil was doing. He was there, and he was playing, but …

We’ve had the DLP projector subbing as full-time television for over a year now and this week is the first time we’ve used it for video games. This is dumb because, well, what’s not awesome about an 11-foot wide video game? Aside from the epilepsy? Problem is, I see a potentially monsterous time suck machine on the horizon. Good thing most video games are unbearably dumb.

  • Question about the projector. I thought the bulbs on those thigs were ridiculously expensive and short lived. Do you have to replace it frequently? We’ve always treated Shannon’s dad’s Dell projector with kid gloves for that very reason. If yours isn’t that fragile, what kind do you have and where can I get one?

  • …the bulb issue. They generally last about 2000 hours and they cost between $200 and $300 to replace. Like I said, we’ve had the projector for over a year, and we still have over half of our bulb life left (there’s a meter in the menu tree that keeps track for us). You just have to ask yourself if using a projector as your primary TV is worth a couple hundred bucks every two and a half years or so. (Ed: under $50/year? I say YES!)

We have the NEC HT410, which is an entry level home projector (read: low end). It is only 1000 lumens and it cost $600 in September 2005. I got it from tigerdirect.com. If you go there now, you’ll see they have several 2000 lumen projectors for $599.

In conclusion, what are you waiting for?
