Speech Recognition - Another Vista Feature
Vista continues to pile on the features, or so it seems! This time, let’s talk about Speech Recognition - truly the ability to navigate your computer by voice - doing nearly, well, anything!
Speech Recognition in Windows Vista empowers you to interact with your computer by voice. It allows you to significantly limit your use of mouse and keyboard while maintaining or increasing productivity. You can dictate documents and e-mail messages in mainstream applications, fill out forms on the web using voice commands, and seamlessly manage Windows Vista and applications by saying what you see.
Very cool stuff, but will it work everywhere?
Commands, for all applications and interfaces, whether they be a standard Windows application or a webpage, must ensure to have proper alt tags, naming each of their buttons, links and other interactive features. Without this careful and thorough process, the interface will require you to call out links by number, as seen in the demonstration video.
Speech Recognition is fully integrated into Windows Vista and is built on top of the latest Microsoft speech technologies. It has unparalleled voice recognition accuracy that improves with use as it adapts to your speaking style and vocabulary. Speech Recognition supports multiple languages and includes a new human-sounding speech synthesizer.

Microsoft’s Speech Recognition is designed to focus on what you want. Right from the start, you can work through guided setups and an interactive training application to get familiar with key concepts and commands. The innovative natural user interface provides choices or additional questions to help you along. Whether starting an application, selecting a word, or correcting a sentence, you are always in control and are smoothly guided toward a list of smart choices.
So are you ready for all Vista has to offer?

VERY SMART ABOUT 10 YEARS AGO I TRIED VOICE RECOGNITION TO NO AVAIL, I HOPE MS VOICE RECOG WILL BE MUCH BETTER THEN THE OLD DRAGON VOICE PRO CIRCA 1995.
Hello, Dave!
I use Dragon version 9 voice recognition software, and it is FANTASTIC! No training is involved, it self-trains as I speak. Obviously, I do not have to worry about spelling mistakes.
I am sold! It speeds up my work ten-fold.
It is not on this 2001-computer because my 20Gb hard drive is full. I am waiting for Vista to buy a top-of-the-line media center PC for home. I have Dragon Naturally Speaking version 9 on my laptop.
Unless you can type at more than 100 wps, Dragon Naturally Speaking version 9 is the way to go.

Ive heard so many mixed reviews of the vista voice recognition feature! some people say its terrible and others praise it. Ive been looking into upgrading to vista and this feature is certainly a factor in my decision but id just like a little more feedback…does it work well? or do you have to tweak it a lot?
