We want to be able to transfer our videotape to DVD and our records and tapes to CD. We also need a laptop. It would be great if we found a laptop with the cards and software to accomplish the video and audio.
Looking for advice re: video and audio transfer via laptop

Tombone,
What I would recommend is a product like the Plextor PX-402U. It allows you to connect your vcr to your computer via usb connections though an extrenal device. The bonus to an external device like this is that you are not locked into using one device. Another option would be a TV Turner card, this would allow you to go from the coax output of your vcr and input it to your computer. TV Turner cards are available as pci cards and usb cards.
I NEED TO DO THE REVERSE AND TRANSFER FROM COMPUTER TO A DVD RECORDER SUGGESTIONS PLAESE I AM USING A GATEWAY WITHOUT AUDIO VIDEO OUT
