Photog Friday! The Canon PowerShot G7 Camera
The Powershot G-series from venerated camera maker Canon has always been a sturdy, dependable buy. Extensive manual controls and advanced features have made this point and shoot camera a favorite amongst the photo-savvy elite. While the Canon Powershot G7 10 megapixel model has toned down the multitude of tools one has available, this leaves room for the most popular and widely used options on the camera.
There’s two brand new technologies incorporated into this digital camera. One is the optical image stabilization, which helps a shaky hand take a steady shot, and Automatic face detection, which uses an on-board computer algorithm to identify and sharpen the detail the human faces of your subjects.
There’s even an improved movie capture mode, for those whom still images are not enough. All in all, this camera promises to provide a competent, extremely versatile compact digital camera capable of capturing almost any picture in exquisite form.
The battery charger is small and plugs directly into any wall outlet, making this camera an ideal traveling companion. The battery itself is rated to take about 200 photographs, with half of those pictures taken with the flash and the LCD in use. We would suggest that you get yourself a high-speed SD card, as the Canon Powershot G7 is SDHC compliant. Get one that’s bigger than the 32MB SD card that comes with the camera; you’ll fill this one up so fast it’ll shock you!
You can compose your shots one of two ways, either using the optical viewfinder or the brilliant 2.5-inch LCD display. The LCD makes taking pictures easier, but some people still prefer to sight their photos manually. Not bad for a compact point and shoot, Huh?
The Canon PowerShot G7 might not fit in the pockets of a pair of hip hugger jeans, but it is still more or less very portable.
There’s a hot shoe for an accessory flash, which makes night photography easy. The zoom lever is easy to find while working on a shot’s composition. The mode dial provides instant access to the camera’s Auto, Program AE, Manual, Aperture-Priority and Shutter-Priority shooting modes. And there’s even stitch-assist technology, for assembling panoramic shots.
If you want a small, portable camera that still has all the features of a significant digital powerhouse, consider the Canon PowerShot G7. We highly doubt you’ll be disappointed.
