Blu-Ray disc players new lower pricing - finally Blu-Ray’s superior technology and performance can be enjoyed by everyone. Great deals on Blu-Ray players and Sony’s PlayStation 3 push prices below the $400 price barrier, and makes Blu-Ray affordable!

When the first High Definition TVs (HDTV) hit the market in 1998, movie buffs, sports fans and tech aficionados just had to get their hands on one. Its stunning resolution and intense digital surround sound left everyone in awe as they marveled at the incredible life-like performance in a box.

A few years further down the road, Blu-Ray (also known as Blu-ray Disc or BD) made waves as the next-generation optical disc. Recording, rewriting, and playing back high definition video or storing data more than five times that of a regular DVD can be made possible only through Blu-Ray technology. Blu-Ray’s increased storage capacity combined with ultra-advanced video and audio codecs lets its viewers enjoy unprecedented HD experience.

With its state-of-the-art technology and winning benefits, Blu-Ray has been making a splash though most people seem are caught up with and confused by the resemblance to HD-DVD. Although both Blu-ray and HD-DVD are quite similar, there are several differences between them:

Capacity: Blu-Ray utilizes a lens with a greater numerical aperture (NA). This gives greater precision to fit more data on the same size disc allowing 25GB per layer (50GB on a dual-layer disc), whereas HD-DVD can only hold 15GB per layer (30GB on a dual-layer disc).

Speed: Blu-Ray has a higher data transfer rate for video and audio 54Mbps vs HD-DVD’s 36.55Mbps. Now, movie studios can release their movies with higher quality video and audio than the HD-DVD format.

Content: Not all movies studios can support more than one format. With broad support from seven out of the eight major movie studios (Warner, Paramount, Fox, Disney, Sony, MGM and Lionsgate), Blu-Ray managed to release more titles. HD-DVD has support from only two major movie studios (Paramount and Universal).

Hardware Support: The Blu-Ray format has broad support from the world’s leading consumer electronics, personal computer and media manufacturers, including Sony, Panasonic, Philips, Samsung, Pioneer, Sharp, JVC, Hitachi, Mitsubishi, TDK, Thomson, LG, Apple, HP and Dell. The Blu-Ray format is now available in PlayStation 3 (PS3 (Sony PlayStation 3)) video game console. This gives you more choices to choose from for entertainment. And with the recent drop in prices for the PlayStation 3 and other Blu-Ray players, makes Blu-Ray more affordable than ever!

Cost: With a starting price point of $399 for Blu-Ray players from Sharp and others., it is now affordable for everyone.

Shifting to Blu-Ray is a shifting the weights between technological advancement and practical sense. But with its lower entry price point, and compatibility with traditional DVDs and CDs, Blu-Ray makes more sense than ever!
