Gimme a Big Drive! 120GB PS3 In The Works

200801028_1.jpgSony’s certainly busy these days. There’s a rumor that the Japanese multimedia giant could be working on a new PS3 (Sony PlayStation 3) model with a larger hard drive capacity. And that’s just for starters. The rumor mill suggests that Sony intends to maintain its two-unit strategy for the PS3 and will sell the console with additional storage that could reach either 120GB or 160GB depending on final details. This future system is also said to come bundled with the previously Japanese Domestic Market-only Dual Shock 3 controller that adds rumble back to Sony’s controllers while keeping the motion sensitivity of the SIXAXIS already offered with international PS3s.

Here’s a brief history lesson: Dual Shock is basically a fancy name for the motors inside controllers that made them rumble. Based on in-game events, usually involving collisions, Dual Shock controllers would vibrate, mirroring the onscreen action by sending feedback through the controls.

Sony was eventually sued for patent infringement because of its use of the technology and discontinued Dual Shock for the PS3. With the lawsuit behind Sony, rumors circulated that it was bringing Dual Shock back. It finally did last year, when the Dual Shock 3 was introduced in Japan. Bringing the controller to American shores seems to be the next logical step. We’ll keep you posted once more details regarding the new PS3 model emerge.
