USB 3.0 Revisited

ultra-ult40112-adapter.jpgAnother year – another specification – another marketing term to look forward to. Nicknamed “SuperSpeed USB”, discussions of USB 3.0 came up again when “suspicious” connectors were spotted on a new Asus notebook, at CES 2008. Though not demonstrated in operation, its an indication that manufacturers seem to be planning ahead and building USB 3.0 infrastructure into their products, much sooner than anyone expected. The full USB 3.0 specification is expected to be complete by the end of June 2008. This is great news for all of us who are full participants of the Digital/HD Era.

U2 Challenges Internet Providers

u2_01.jpgThe world famous band U2‘s advocacy on fairness is echoed not only by its four members, but by its manager as well. Paul McGuinness, U2′s manager for the past thirty years, challenged Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to take up the cudgels against freeloaders who get their music fix from illegal downloads. He called for immediate disconnection policies and added that governments should prod the ISPs as well. More »

Game Reset: Electronic Arts Profits Fall

ea.jpgIn the gaming world, conservative estimates also mean plummeting shares. And this applies even to the largest independent video game maker. California-based video game developer and publisher Electronic Arts, Inc. (EA) brought down its profit outlook, resulting in a 6 percent share slump for the third quarter. The gaming media giant admits a “mixed” performance for the last fiscal year. Delays in title releases such as “Mercenaries 2: World in Flames”, “Battlefield: Bad Company” caused EA earnings to fall below Wall Street’s predictions. “Spore”, the much-awaited game from SIMS creator Will Wright is expected to hit shelves not before the 2008 fall holidays, later than the expected April-June 2008 release. Pimp Your PC Or Ultra Luxury Desktop

zeus_mars_spec22.jpgThe title’s a bit of a misnomer. MTV & Xzibit have nothing to do with this and it isn’t about bringing in your old PC so you can have it customized. However, considering the appearance of the computers in question and the amount of money involved to get them, your chances of actually owning one is as close as getting featured on the TV show. Japan’s Tokyo’s Zeus Computer has crafted a line of luxury desktops that bring a new definition to “over the top.
