xfx-gf-9600-gt-picture.jpgThe mid-range video card market has finally taken a front-seat after a year of low & high-end card releases. The amazing pace of fast GPU development has finally caught up with market demand for superior gameplay, making high performance affordable to a large demographic.

Well, with the recent arrival of the new XFX Geforce 9600 GT XXX edition card, you and the masses no longer have to wait. We’ll take a look at design and process improvements to 9th generation of NVIDIA’s GeForce, and dream of the heaps of graphics fun we will have.

The XFX GeForce 9600 GT XXX edition offers the highest clock speeds in XFX’s newly launched 9 series. It is a PCI Express 2.0 single-slot card in a really nice slim design, which surprisingly produces less heat and noise. The XXX Edition features a 700MHz clock speed with 2GHz memory, and 1790 MHz shaders.

sli-logo.jpgThe memory is connected via a 256-bit memory interface to the GPU, which allows for very high memory bandwidth. Connectivity includes a pair of dual-link, HDCP-enabled DVI outputs for connection to analog/digital PC monitors and HDTVs, and an analog video-out port that supports S-Video directly. The card also includes an HDMI upgrade kit for connection to an HDTV. And lets not forget about 2-way SLI. XFX is hyping these cards to be a “sweet spot” for gamers looking to pick up a pair in an SLI configuration.

Though not based on an entirely new architecture, the improved technologies demonstrate that this is more than a mere upgrade. The DirectX 10-ready core is built on the 65nm process and features 64 stream processors. The stream processors on the XFX GeForce 9600 GT XXX operate at 1750MHz, approximately 20% improvement over the first-generation stream processors in the GeForce 8800 GTX. By using 64 stream processors at a higher clock, the GPU operates more efficiently and requires fewer transistors than a slower, wider design.

Also: new enhancements to NVIDIA PureVideo HD making XFX GeForce 9600 GT XXX ideal for use in home theater applications. The updated decoder improves HD playback, and unloads the processing of HD content off of your CPU, and onto your Video Card. Additional support includes faster dual-stream decode acceleration, dynamic contrast enhancement, and automatic enhancement of green, blue, and skin tone colors.

Once again, XFX delivers what the market wants – mid-range cards that offer spectacular performance for a low price. This card performs so well that at this price point, that its almost impossible not to pick up a couple for SLI applications. Plus, lets not forget about XFX’s great lifetime warranty.
