Style and functionality – wouldn’t anyone want these in their laptops? After all, a notebook personal computer that looks great should also work great. The external beauty should be complimented by a functioning internal system that promises only efficient performance and enhanced multimedia features.
Hewlett Packard with its Pavilion dv6449us Notebook PC is one that promises to deliver big on both style and functionality.
Great to Look at, Great to Use
Clad in gray armor, it has that sedate, sexy appeal. Nothing loud or fancy – it’s too elegant for that. The panel gently slopes downward, giving the HP Pavilion dv6449us Notebook PC an understated appeal. Open it and a 15.4 inch BrightView screen, plus a crowning 1.3 megapixel webcam, welcomes you.
Supplementing your chatting needs is an omnidirectional microphone. Its audio ports are located at the front edge of the notebook PC making it very accessible to the user. The right side houses the LightScribe Super Multi 8X DVD±RW optical drive, the USB port, and the ExpressCard slot. On its left side are the expansion port, the VGA-out, two other USB ports, the media card slot, the IEEE 1394 FireWire port, the RJ-11 jack, and the RJ-45 jack. It promises wireless connectivity using 802.11a/b/g/n standard. And to top it off, it also has a 160GB 5400RPM SATA hard drive.
This notebook PC is packed with all the good stuff as well. The features include an all-important dual core processing prowess a modern notebook PC can give and a Windows Vista Home operating system. The processor blazes away at a speed of 1.8GHz and has an FSB of 1600 MHZ and an L2 cache of 2 x 512KB. It comes with 2GB of DDR2 RAM which gives it all the headroom for processing complex tasks.

If that’s not enough to satisfy you, the HP Pavilion dv6449us Notebook PC has a 5-in-1 media reader which adds to the multimedia package this laptop PC boasts. Clearly, HP’s latest offer in the notebook PC market promises value and satisfaction for the multimedia person who is looking for the most bang for the buck.

There are two problems I have noticed with this laptop:
1. Integrated WebCam doesn’t work properly. It only works when it wants and its drivers and configuration always break down.
2. The microphone Jack doesn’t work neither. When you want to record from a guitar or an external microphone, the integrated mic is the only one that works, so the sound is not received by the jack but only by the integrated mic.
If any other HP dv6449us user has solved this problems, please reply to this message.
Thanks in advance.
I have the same problem with a dv6700 – can’t force it to use mic jack. bummers.
