For everyone who has commented - first of all thank you. It's this type of feedback that allows to to monitor product quality.

This is an old video - and should be taken with a grain of salt when considering use with Windows Vista. Vista was in beta when this video was shot.

I can strongly recommend the PINNACLE PCTV stick devices - they are truly great working products.

I purchased the KWorld 115 and am very disappointed with this junk.
Vista Ultimate MCE does not work most of the time. When it does, it only pulls in analog cable, no qam or OTA digital signals. I did find that if MCE does not work, usually you can start total media, change the tuner to analog cable, then restart MCE.
The total media software is terrible. I get loud continuous popping noises every now and then after watching a show for a few minutes. Sometimes moving the window around the screen makes that stop, but very annoying. The guide does not work (Maybe i need to shell out 80.00 to get that to work). You have to choose between QAM (pulled in 6 stations, 3 of which are home shopping) or OTA
NTSC

Not much success with other programs. ChrisTV does work for analog cable only.
Vista Ultimate 64, 4 gig ddr2-800, 500mb*4 western digital HD, Asus p5k-e, Core2 duo E6750, ATI 2600XT/HDMI, 32" magnvox LCD

sounds like it is on the right track to becoming a icon,,,,, but has a ways to go. At 2g's it is no game burner and cost to much for the every day use of the typical student. No it's got a way to go before I'd drop my hard earned green on one. TigerDirect.com has dropped the price by $500 and I have heard they don't seem to be flying off the shipping dock.

Hi,

It's nice to see my video i made is used as an example!

In fact for this clip i only used a webcam! A very simple philip ToUcam 740k.
I took a picture every 15seconds and after a few hours you have a couple of hundred snapshots. I used gif animator pro to stitch all photos together and put the playing time on 1/20s for each photo.
So know you have a movie! Just save it as AVI and voila (dont forget some divx compression or else it will be huge!

David,

You really sound like an Apple apologist. Yes, the MBA has some nice extras as well--but as Desmond was pointing out it isn't as clear cut as many are depositing.

In regards to core performance there is no real competition here. The Toshiba is slightly faster as well as having more than 4 times (!) as much storage space on a faster HDD. Paying a 50% premium for the Mac with lower specs is disconcerting.

As for footprint, I would call it a draw. The Toshiba is narrower, the MBA thinner and lighter. But this isn't apples-to-apples at all because the MBA rips out an essential part of the system--the DVD Writer/Reader!

You attempt to hype the floppy disk example as a nod to Apple's genius, but the reality is that the two are not congruent. Floppy drives at the time were being displaced by CD and DVD drives and to make a consession for size it became impractical to have both in a system (or bother with the additional cost of swappable drives). The problem with the floppy example (which was displaced by USB Flash and CD/DVD media) is that CD/DVD is an integral part of todays computing--much more so than floppy drives were. Not only are optical media used to load application and backup content they are also used for media (movies, music) as well as authoring. Further, there has appeared no ubiquitous standard to displace the functionality of an optical drive.

Sacrificing an essential component to the core design for a reduction in thickness and weight (especially if the weight is still present in carrying around the external drive!) is a poor trade off for many (but not all) users.

The MBA has some nice perks and is a quality design but for a user looking for performance and portability at the best price the Toshiba indeed has a number of advantaged. In many cases these advantages impact the core experience in a significant manner and should not be diminished, especially at the price disparity.

Vista Home Premium 32bit & AMD Phenom 9600 & 4GB Kingston PC2 8500 Ram

I purchased an ECS A780GM-A and an Asus HD 3450 from TigerDirect last week. I have been looking everywhere for some kind of documentation, or how to that explains how to set up the Hybrid Graphics. I have found nothing that explains which GPU the monitor should be connected to (IGP or 3450), what the bios settings should be or anything that even remotely explains how to set it up.

I have enabled surround view and selected the IGP as primary display device in the BIOS. Also installed latest bios updates.

I have it to the point where Crossfire shows up in CCC (8.4) and I can check to enable it (or not). While both the IGP 3200 and GPU 3450 are correctly listed in device manager, only the HD 3450 is listed in CCC. Testing performance in Win Vista shows no improvement with or without crossfire enabled. I'm not sure how to proceed, so if you would have any advice or can point me to a tutorial.... I'd be much obliged! Thanks ~~ Gary

This message only started for me after I installed the new Firefox Shockwave Flash plugin (np-mswmp.dll) that replaces the old npdsplay.dll plugin file that you used to have to use for Netscape or Opera. High Definition Game videos were not working and this new plugin was suggested as a possible fix.
Apparently it worked for some people but I've been the only one so far with Vista that has mentioned it. I'm still waiting to see if other Vista users are getting the same results.
It forced me to shutdown Opera and the complete Operating system in order to get rid of the message box.
Perhaps it's the plugin that's causing others such problems.
I wish Microsoft would notice it and do something about it.
