Been waiting for the latest browser from Firefox? Today it will finally be released, at 5PM Pacific time. This release, coming one week after the release of Internet Explorer 7 from Microsoft, is a final release of the “2.0″ project, started in June 2006 with millions of downloads of the multiple “beta” versions which were released since that time.
Firefox is coordinated by the Mozilla Foundation, who reports that over a million individuals assisted in the release of today’s version. Open source software projects, just as Firefox, are gaining more ground every day. The future of software development may well be headed in the open-source direction, allowing people who use the applications on a daily basis to be integrally involved in the development, enhancement and extension of the platform.
